The Institute for
Rehabilitation and Research, (TIRR)
The Institute for Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR),
in
Houston’s Medical Center, 1333 Moursund Ave. Houston, TX 77030 has an Outpatient
Polio Clinic, and the only one in Southeast Texas. Comprehensive medical and
physical therapy evaluations are provided to determine or confirm the diagnosis
of Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS). Education about PPS, further medical testing,
energy conservation strategies, adaptive/assistive equipment, and therapies is
also provided. The Post-Polio Clinic also offers periodic follow-ups to all
patients.
This clinic has two Physicians available for appointments.

Assistance Fund
The Texas Polio Survivors' Association, Inc.
has an assistance fund available for
persons needing financial aid.
Applicant must be a polio survivor living in the State of Texas. Application forms may be obtained through the Texas Polio Survivors' office, from small polio support groups around Texas and TPSA sponsored meetings.
Before applying to Texas Polio Survivors' Association, Inc. Assistance Fund, an applicant should have explored all other resources such as, Texas Rehabilitation Commission, Texas Department of Human Services, Veterans Administration (if applicable), County Public Hospital or Clinic funds, Medicare, Medicare supplemental policies, Medicaid and others. Texas Polio Survivors' Association, Inc. Assistance fund should be the last resort for financial aid.
